Time to Fall Back and Change the Batteries in your Smoke Dectectors!

A friend of mine is a fireman and asked me to REMIND everyone, now is the time of year to replace the batteries in your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors.

A working smoke detector is your first line of defense if you have a fire in your house; as we start using fireplaces, heating, do holiday cooking, hang holiday lights, portable heaters and fight off the cold.

When the cold weather starts more people begin using gas appliances to heat their homes and this puts them at risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. The gas is called the "Silent Killer" because it is colorless, odorless and tasteless. Each year whole families die from this killer.

The International Association of Fire Chiefs recommends changing the batteries in your smoke detectors every time you have to change the clocks for daylight savings. October 31 is when we fall back and please change the batteries in your detectors, It may Save your Life and the Lives of all in your Family.

If you do not have a smoke detector please check with your local fire station and see if there is a program in place that will provide you with a free smoke detector.

This may be the most important battery change you make. Please do it!
Have a safe Halloween!
